Lieut Colonel Stafford H Ferrand DSO MC

11th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment

Lieut Colonel Stafford H Ferrand  was commissioned into the army as a regular soldier in July 1908.

He joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps and left for India with his regiment in December 1908. He returned to England in September 1914 and joined a troop ship in Southampton on 20th December 1914.

In France he joined the British Expeditionary Force.

He went into the trenches for the first time on January 7th 1915. Unfortunately, he got frostbite in his feet and was invalided back to England. He returned to France in July 1915.

He was promoted to Captain and awarded the MC for gallantry in the field in January1916. He was promoted to major in August 1916 and on being given commend of the 11th Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment from Hull, to acting Lieutenant Colonel in December 1916.

He was awarded the DSO in the Birthday Honours of June 1919 for Distinguished Service in France and Flanders.

He retired from the army in 1926 and died in 1975.
