Harden Village Council is in the process of producing a Neighbourhood Plan – this is a statutory land-use planning document that aims to shape and influence how Harden develops in the next 10 years.

Over the last 18 months a series of engagement events with the local community have been undertaken. This has helped to inform the scope and content of the plan and ensures the plan reflects local aspirations.

A draft plan is currently being prepared and will be consulted on in Spring/Summer 2020. Download the draft plan here (PDF, 4.6Mb) and download a summary of engagement events here (PDF, 164Kb).

As part of the Neighbourhood Plan a Design Code will be produced to help communicate design expectations for all development in Harden. This includes both new developments and guidance for existing properties. The Design Code will cover a range of issues including: –

• Local character
• Materials, building heights, scale and massing
• Sustainable design and construction
• Movement and connections
• Biodiversity and green infrastructure
• Guidance for development in conservation areas
• Extensions and alterations
• Replacement dwellings

The Neighbourhood Plan project team would like to invite local people to share their views on design in Harden, which will feed into the Design Code.

Although Bradford Council are only forecasting development of up to 25 new homes to 2037, it is important that any new development is of high quality and addresses local concerns and aspirations.
