Earlier in the year, we asked people in the village what you thought about Harden. We worked with the Kirkgate Centre who gave every household a pack, worked with children in the school and facilitated an event in the Memorial Hall.
A useful summary of what you told us is below.
You can also download the full report here (43 page PDF document).
After reading the report I got to thinking about many of the things that have been raised by the residents of Harden and an idea sprung to my mind.
To keep the Memorial Hall going would be expensive and it has been said that it is not really suitable in it’s layout so my suggestion would be the piece of land off Keighley Road that has been earmarked for “Residential Development” could be used in many different ways to benefit the village instead of impacting on the village. My idea would be for a purpose built building to be erected that would suit many of the needs that have been mentioned. It could include some small shop units maybe a Doctors surgery and certainly some much needed parking for the residents of the village thus taking lots of parked cars off the narrow roads which will also make it safer for pedestrians with Zebra/Pelican crossings in the right places for safer road crossing.
Hi,
I agree with the crossings in the right place which need to be light controlled. Drivers seem to take little notice of zebra markings or the highway code to wait till the pedestrian has gained the far pavement. However, I have to disagree with the new build suggestion as this diminishes the very green space we covet. Surely the Memorial Hall can be reconfigured/extended to accomodate the cinema/meeting space/community venue, units etc
for the same amount as a new build? Just sayin’…
