Last August with little notice, BT decided to cut off the service to both phone boxes. The box near St Ives Road was quickly removed. The Parish Council wanted to preserve the other box, as it has been part of the village street scene for many years, so paid £1 to adopt it. BT will remove the phone equipment but maintain the light.
The box has been neglected so the Parish Council will work out how to clean it up, renovate it and find a use for it. Phone boxes have been used as book exchanges, for flower displays and as art galleries.
