Royal Field Artillery

Harry Smith was born in 1899. In 1911 he lived at 54 Long Lane, Harden with his parents, Mark and Annie, and five siblings.

He returned to live in his birth place, Armley, before joining the Royal Field Artillery in 1914 and rose to the rank of sergeant.

In 1918, having already been awarded the Military Medal, he as awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. 

He was admitted to the General Hospital in Etaples with severe concussion after which he was posted back to Ripon.
